From a business standpoint, I get to help people. I have always insisted on working for a mortgage broker, which means I get to shop around from many different lenders to find the best loan for my clients. Most lenders offer the same limited number of basic programs, but you would be surprised at the number of specialty programs that only a few lenders offer.
Sometimes the best loan is just the best rate. However, sometimes “the best loan” means finding that special program that meets my clients’ special circumstances.
Therefore, an important component of my job is to ask questions and help a client consider what their plans are, for the short term and the long term. Instead of mindlessly placing someone in a loan that I think is right, I try to present several loan programs to my clients and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each program. My job is to provide options and explanations so that my clients can make sound decisions.
When you buy a hamburger, you need an order-taker. When you buy a home, you need someone with experience and expertise.
From a personal standpoint, my job is even better. I can’t tell you how many interesting people I meet. I get to learn about being a Boeing engineer, a Microsoft programmer, a tug boat captain, a deep sea oil driller, a veterinarian, a fashion designer, and the list continues.
In fact, one of my clients is the person at Costco who came up with the $1.50 hot dog and soda special many, many years ago. The special still exists and is one of the best values in town.
One of the funny things that I am experiencing these days is that I am now helping the children of my clients buy homes. Seeing people’s lives grow and change over time is a fascinating thing.
I love my job and people I get to meet.
The fact that I get to help them makes it even better.
If I can help you, I hope you will give me a call.
